Civil Service Appeals
The Law Office of Joseph L. Sulman, Esq., represents public safety workers in appeals before the Civil Service Commission. We work closely with police officers and firefighters concerning appointment and promotion decisions as well as disciplinary matters. This experience includes individual Civil Service appeals as well as a complex federal trial challenging the police examination procedures.
Under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 31, the Civil Service Commission reviews decisions by cities and towns concerning hiring, promotion, and disciplinary matters. The most common cases are bypass appeals and challenges to suspensions and discharges. We have the experience and dedication necessary to help public safety workers successfully challenge personnel decisions that are based on unfair or illegal reasons.
